Marek is glad for Reese, and so is Inalia, though her feelings are colored by some spot of guilt from a place she can't quite identify. Kenik thinks he's indifferent, but we all know that's not true. Veli is unbelievably worried but keeps a neutral face. By contrast, Stella is infinitely more worried but keeps a happy face.
Reese, on the other hand, is more excited than anything. Kennari can't be that bad, she figures, and WOW that star was cool. Besides, she tells herself, I'll get to go home in just a few months. And when I do, I can show off all my cool magic powers. Just, you know, only to mom and Veli.
So, as she waves and as they call out and as she turns and walks down the road and as Inalia and Marek and Kenik filter off she asks Kennari if witches get their powers from the stars that fall and Kennari says kinda, really the power is from the stars that stay in the sky. It's a night thing. You can only cast spells at night. Reese ponders that as they veer off the road and enter the forest. Stella and Veli hang around for a moment longer before going back.
